Computer and Data Communications

Solution 1

Probability of failure of the system is

Pf = 1-Pw

where Pw is the probability that the system works. This event is true if all the elements of the system A work. The probability that a link works is 1-Pl; that a repeater works is 1-Pr. These events are all independent, so the probability that the system works is the product of probabilities of these separate events:

Pw = [(1-Pl)(1-Pr)]90

And then the probability that two stations will not be able to communicate is

Pf =1- ((1-Pl)(1-Pr))90
