Selectively Reliable Multicast Protocol

SRMP is a selectively reliable transport protocol for real-time, multicast distributed applications such as Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS). These applications can be characterized by the need for multicast communication with low latency and by the need for the reliable transmission of some, but not all, data.

The protocol operates in three distinct modes: best-effort multicast, reliable multicast using negative acknowledgments with NAK suppression mechanisms to avoid congestion at the sender, and lightweight reliable transaction-oriented unicast.

SRMP is designed to run in user space and form a sublayer between applications and the kernel-level Internet protocol stack.
